Fit to Compete
The half marathon program is designed to give you the strength and stamina to confidently complete a half marathon.
This is a 12-week program that focuses on 3 aspects of building up the capacity to effectively and efficiently run a half marathon.
Use this program to learn how to pace run for your specific goal.
In this program you will learn...
How to structure your workouts within the week, what distances to run each week, how to build the strength to run the half marathon efficiently that will in turn reduce your risk for injury.
Sessions have been included that are specifically designed to practice running at the pace you need to run the half marathon in your desired time.

Phase 1:
General Competition
Focus: Strength/Power
During phase 1 of the system, your weekly km's steadily increase as will your load.
In the gym, you'll start to perform key power compound lifts, targeted single-leg exercises, eccentric exercises and plyometrics.
In this phase, volume is low and intensity is moderate.

Phase 2:
Transitional Competition
Focus: Power
In phase 2 of the system, your weekly km's will continue to increase as you adapt and become more accustomed to the loads.
In the gym, you'll perform more complex power compound lifts and specific strength exercises for sprinting including plyometrics.
In this phase, volume is low and intensity is high.

Phase 3:
Specific Competition
Focus: Power/Speed
In the final phase of the system, distances start to reduce, load is reduced and speed is added to your runs.
In the gym, you'll be performing advanced power compound lifts, isometric exercises and plyometrics.
In this phase, volume is very low and intensity is very high.

Most half marathon programs focus on running. Makes sense, right?! But in all my years writing running programs, I've come to realise running is just one aspect of being able to run.
It's not even the most important aspect.
Technique is by far the most important aspect. The second most important aspect is strength. Thirdly is conditioning, and this is the running. Sadly, it's the only aspect of most half marathon programs.
I've had the opportunity to test and refine this philosophy over the years with runners of all levels and over all distances.
With this program, you get all this knowledge packaged into a refined 3-phase system.
